Managed VPS
Professional server administration and technical support
Your server — under our control
A dedicated VPS gives you far more resources, freedom, and flexibility than standard hosting. At the same time, it comes with responsibility for its technical condition: operating system updates, server service operation, security, backups, resource usage, and timely issue resolution.
Managed VPS lets you delegate these tasks to WorkHost specialists. We handle regular technical maintenance of your server environment, monitor its condition, and help resolve server-related issues within your chosen plan.
You focus on your website, store, service, or business — we take care of the server.

Clear service scop
No hidden “unlimited administration”
Each plan clearly specifies which services are included in the monthly fee. We do not attempt to anticipate an endless list of possible CRM or ERP systems, Docker stacks, scripts, or custom configurations.
The principle is simple: if a task is included in the plan, it is performed within the plan. If it is not included, its scope and complexity are assessed separately and agreed with the client before work begins.

What’s included in VPS management
VPS Light
VPS monitoring
We monitor VPS availability and the health of core server components. The fact that a server is online and responding over the network does not necessarily mean that the services hosted on it are working properly.
If the server becomes unavailable or one of the monitored services fails, we investigate the cause and take the necessary steps to restore its operation, provided the issue is within the server environment.
Monitoring helps identify some issues before they turn into prolonged website or service downtime.
VPS Light
Resource monitoring
We monitor VPS CPU, RAM, swap, and disk-space usage. Sustained high CPU load, insufficient RAM, or a full disk can cause slowdowns, database errors, unexpected process termination, and server service outages.
If resource shortages are persistent, we analyze the cause: excessive load from an individual process, an inefficient server service configuration, project growth, or an actual lack of resources on the current VPS.
Based on the assessment, we adjust server settings within the plan or recommend increasing resources if the issue cannot be resolved through configuration alone.
VPS Light
System updates
We regularly install available operating-system and system-package updates from official repositories, with particular attention to updates that fix bugs and known security vulnerabilities.
Before significant changes, we consider the server’s current configuration and the potential impact of updates on installed server components. After updating, we verify that the core services affected continue to function properly.
System updates do not include updates to client CMS, CRM, ERP, billing systems, plugins, modules, or other application software. Such products may have their own update procedures, dependencies, and compatibility requirements.
VPS Light
Server service monitoring
We monitor the operation of the core system and server services used in the current VPS configuration: the web server, PHP, database server, and other server-environment components.
If a service crashes, stops responding, or fails to start after a VPS reboot, we check its status, system messages, and available error logs, identify the cause, and restore normal operation.
Monitoring covers server services and their configuration only. Errors in website code, CMS platforms, plugins, CRM or ERP systems, and other application software are not considered server-service issues and, if needed, are handled as separate work.
VPS Light
Basic security and firewall
We monitor core VPS security parameters: network access, open ports, administrative access to the server, and the status of critical system updates.
We configure basic firewall rules based on the current VPS setup, ensuring that only the services and ports genuinely required for server operation remain externally accessible.
Basic security control applies specifically to the server environment. Vulnerabilities in CMS platforms, plugins, CRM, ERP, custom code, and other application software cannot be remedied through server administration alone.
VPS Light
Backup setup and monitoring
We configure automated backups based on the current VPS setup and available storage. We determine which data needs to be retained, how often backups should be created, and how many previous versions should be kept.
After setup, we monitor backup execution and respond to errors that could prevent new backups from being created.
When necessary, we assist with restoring data from an existing functional backup. Backup storage, additional disk space, or third-party storage services, if required, are billed separately.
VPS Light
Load and system log analysis
We analyze CPU, RAM, disk subsystem, and core server service load if the VPS is running slowly, unstably, or regularly reaches its resource limits.
We review system logs and server service logs to identify errors, process crashes, service startup issues, and other events that may affect VPS stability.
Based on the analysis, we identify the cause of the issue and, if it lies within the server environment, adjust the relevant settings or recommend further action.VPS Light
Diagnostics and issue resolution
When issues arise, we check the VPS status, network connection, system resources, server services, and available error logs to identify the source of the problem.
If the cause lies in the operating system, server configuration, or monitored services, we take the necessary steps to restore normal operation.
Errors in website code, CMS platforms, plugins, CRM or ERP systems, and other application software are not considered server failures. Their diagnosis and resolution, if needed, are performed as separate services.
VPS Full
Personal VPS administrator
A personal administrator is assigned to your server and is familiar with its configuration, change history, project specifics, and previous technical incidents.
This enables faster issue resolution and change planning without having to re-examine the server environment each time. The specialist takes into account existing settings, dependencies between services, and the specifics of your VPS.
When contacting support, you do not need to explain the basic details of the server and its configuration each time—the administrator already works with this environment on an ongoing basis.
VPS Full
Enhanced security monitoring
In addition to basic security monitoring and firewall protection, we strengthen administrative access security for your VPS and reduce the risk of unauthorized access. We monitor open network ports, access rules, system accounts, and SSH settings.
To protect against automated password-guessing and brute-force attacks, we configure blocking of repeated failed login attempts. For SSH, we recommend and, with your approval, implement SSH key authentication with the option to disable password-based login. We also monitor attacks targeting the standard SSH port 22 and other exposed administrative services.
We review system logs, failed login attempts, and other suspicious activity. When necessary, we adjust firewall, SSH, and server security settings, and recommend additional measures if standard protection is insufficient for a particular project.
VPS Full
Advanced Web Stack optimization
We analyze the web server, PHP, and database server performance based on actual load, available resources, and the specifics of the hosted project.
We adjust Nginx or Apache, PHP, OPcache, MySQL or MariaDB, and other Web Stack settings if the default configuration does not ensure optimal use of VPS resources.
The goal of this optimization is to reduce unnecessary load, use CPU and RAM more efficiently, and improve server-environment stability—without blindly applying generic “optimal configurations.”
VPS Full
Configuration change support
We oversee changes to the server configuration that may affect VPS stability, performance, or security.
When changing web server, PHP, database, system service, or network configuration settings, we consider the current server architecture and dependencies between its components.
If changes are related to project growth, new requirements, or changing workload, we help adapt the existing server environment without having to rebuild it entirely from scratch.
VPS Full
Priority request handling
Support requests from Full plan clients receive higher priority in the technical support queue. This is especially important for active websites, online stores, CRM systems, and other services where delays in resolving a server issue can directly affect the business.
When you contact us, we take into account the current VPS status, its configuration, and the history of previous changes, allowing us to move directly to diagnosing the issue more quickly.
Priority handling does not mean instant resolution of every issue, but it reduces the wait time before work begins within support availability hours.
VPS Full
Investigation of complex server incidents
We perform in-depth diagnostics when the cause of instability is not immediately apparent or affects multiple components of the server environment at the same time.
We analyze system logs, service operation, load, network connections, dependencies between components, and previous configuration changes to identify the root cause of an incident rather than merely address its symptoms.
After identifying the cause, we carry out available corrective actions at the server level and, if necessary, recommend changes to reduce the risk of a similar issue recurring.
VPS Full
Scaling recommendations and preparation
We monitor how VPS load changes as your project grows and help determine when the current server configuration is no longer sufficient.
We analyze CPU, RAM, disk subsystem usage, and core service performance to identify the specific resource becoming a bottleneck. This helps avoid blindly increasing all server resources at once.
Before upgrading to a more powerful VPS or a different configuration, we help assess the required resources and prepare the server environment for scaling with minimal risk to project stability.
Who is Managed VPS for?
Businesses without a system administrator
Online stores, marketplaces, and classified listings platforms
CRM, ERP, VPN, billing panels, and business systems
Web studios, designers, and development teams
Networks of websites, web services, and digital platforms
Growing projects with increased workload
Server environment security
VPS security is not a standalone feature that can simply be enabled once. A server is continuously exposed to the internet, so its protection involves multiple layers: timely system updates, controlled network access, a properly configured firewall, secure administrative access, and monitoring of suspicious activity.
We follow the principle of least privilege: a server should not expose services and ports that the project does not use. We pay particular attention to SSH—one of the primary methods of administrative access to a Linux server and a constant target of automated brute-force attacks.
The Light plan provides a basic level of server security: firewall configuration, monitoring of open ports, system updates, administrative access, and core services. The Full plan adds enhanced monitoring: analysis of failed login attempts and suspicious activity, strengthened SSH access, SSH key authentication, and configuration adjustments tailored to the specific server.
No server configuration can guarantee absolute protection against every possible attack. The purpose of administration is to minimize the attack surface, eliminate obvious risks, and respond promptly to events that may indicate a problem.
What we monitor
- Firewall and open network ports
- SSH and administrative access
- Brute-force attacks and failed login attempts
- Critical system updates
- Suspicious server activity
- Core server service status
A backup should not just exist—it must work
Configured backups alone do not guarantee that your data is protected. A backup may stop being created due to insufficient storage space, a storage access error, a configuration change, a task failure, or another technical issue—and the server owner may only discover this when the backup is already needed.
That is why backups within Managed VPS are not a single action but three connected processes: configuring backup creation, monitoring their execution, and ensuring data can be restored. We define a backup schedule, monitor its operation, and respond to errors that could prevent new backups from being created.
The backup storage location is equally important. A backup stored only on the same VPS as the live data does not protect against the complete loss of the server or its disk storage. For critical data, it is advisable to use separate backup storage that is physically or logically isolated from the main VPS.
In the event of a failure, we help restore the server, website, or data from an available, working backup. However, backups are not a magic way to recover any lost data: if the required backup does not exist, is corrupted, or the needed information was lost before it was created, recovery cannot be guaranteed.
What backup management includes
- Automated backup configuration
- Defining the backup schedule and retention policy
- Monitoring backup completion status
- Responding to backup errors
- Use of separate storage when available
- Assistance with restoring from a working backup
Onboarding a VPS into management
01 — Initial assessment
We review VPS access, operating system health, resources, core services, and the current server configuration.
02 — Server audit
We identify issues, risks, and settings that need to be fixed or changed before the server is accepted into management.
03 — Server preparation
We perform the initial security, firewall, backup, update, and server-service configuration included in the plan.
04 — Management onboarding
After preparation, the VPS moves to regular monitoring, maintenance, and technical support under the Light or Full plan.
Direct access to your administrator
Support every day, including weekends and public holidays
Managed VPS clients do not use the general ticket system, website chat, or standard email correspondence for server-related matters. Once your VPS is accepted into management, you receive direct contact with your administrator through your preferred messenger—Telegram, Viber, or WhatsApp.
This lets you contact the specialist responsible for managed servers directly and quickly send a problem description, screenshot, system message, or other required information—without intermediaries or unnecessary communication steps.
Direct access is available 16 hours a day, 7 days a week, including weekends and public holidays. If a server issue arises, you do not need to wait until Monday or explain the situation to a general-support representative unfamiliar with your server environment.
For Managed VPS Full clients, this communication channel leads directly to the personal administrator assigned to your VPS, who is familiar with its configuration, change history, and project specifics.
16/7 means that direct communication with your administrator is available during the stated hours, but it does not guarantee an immediate response or a fixed resolution time for every issue. Resolution time depends on the nature of the problem and the work required.
VPS setup and administration—from initial deployment to ongoing support
Renting a virtual server is easy today. The bigger questions arise after you receive it: which operating system to choose, how to configure the VPS, install a web server, PHP, and a database, connect a domain, configure DNS, SSL, email, and backups, and protect the server from unauthorized access.
Unlike standard hosting, a VPS gives its owner much greater control over the server environment. At the same time, it also brings greater responsibility: the server must be properly configured, regularly updated, monitored for resource usage and server services, kept secure, and promptly maintained in the event of potential issues.
Not every website, online store, or web service owner needs to become a system administrator. That is why WorkHost offers VPS setup and administration—from the initial preparation of a new server to ongoing technical support through our Managed VPS plans.
VPS setup from scratch
After ordering a new VPS, the client essentially receives a separate virtual machine with dedicated resources and administrative access. By itself, such a server is not yet a ready environment for hosting a website or another project.
Initial VPS setup begins with installing an operating system available for the selected server and performing its initial updates. The subsequent configuration depends on the tasks the server will be used for.
If the VPS is intended for hosting websites, it usually needs a web server, PHP, a database server, SSL, DNS, and other web-environment components. For other projects, the configuration may differ significantly.
That is why there is no single universal way to “properly configure a server.” A VPS for a small corporate website, a large WooCommerce store, a CRM, ERP, or a standalone web service may use the same operating system but have entirely different resource and server-configuration requirements.
Our goal during initial server setup is to build a stable foundation for your project—not simply install a set of applications and leave you to handle the remaining configuration on your own.
VPS control panel installation and configuration
For most website owners, managing a server exclusively through SSH is inconvenient and often unnecessary. A control panel lets you handle many everyday tasks through a standard web interface.
It lets you manage websites and domains, create databases, change PHP versions, work with SSL certificates, email accounts, backups, and other server components without constantly using the command line.
WorkHost can install a control panel on your VPS if the selected panel is supported by the server configuration and available for installation as part of the relevant service.
However, having a control panel does not eliminate the need for server administration. A panel simplifies management of certain functions, but the operating system, web server, database, PHP, system services, and network components still run beneath it and require updates, monitoring, and technical maintenance.
A server can also operate without a control panel. This option is often used for specialized web services, standalone applications, and other projects where a graphical panel is simply unnecessary. In such cases, the server configuration is defined directly by the project’s requirements.
VPS administration after initial setup
A server that is well configured today does not remain unchanged forever.
The operating system and installed packages receive updates. Website workloads change. Databases and file volumes grow. Disk space runs out. New software versions and security fixes are released. Individual services can stop due to an error, insufficient memory, or another issue.
That is why VPS administration is not a one-time server installation, but ongoing work to maintain its technical health.
It may include VPS monitoring, CPU and RAM usage monitoring, disk-space checks, system updates, server-service monitoring, firewall configuration, backups, system log analysis, and incident diagnosis.
When a server runs reliably, many of these processes go unnoticed by the project owner. This is one of the key benefits of professional VPS management: technical issues are addressed before they become an urgent need to find an administrator after a live website or service goes down.
Server administration without an in-house system administrator
For a company with extensive server infrastructure, an in-house system administrator may be necessary. However, if a business uses one or several VPS instances, hiring a dedicated employee solely to maintain them often makes little practical sense.
In this case, server administration can be delegated to the hosting provider.
The client continues to benefit from a dedicated VPS—dedicated resources, control over the server environment, and the ability to use the required software—without having to handle every system update, analyze logs, or investigate why a server service has stopped.
Managed VPS effectively gives you a server with an administrator, without the need to employ an in-house system specialist.
With the Full plan, a personal administrator is assigned to your VPS and knows its configuration, change history, and the project’s technical specifics. This is especially important for servers whose configuration evolves over time alongside the project itself.
If an issue arises, you do not need to start explaining everything from scratch to a new support agent each time. The specialist already understands how the server environment is structured, which changes were made previously, and which specifics must be considered during ongoing maintenance.
VPS monitoring, security, and backups
One of the key tasks of professional server management is monitoring its current condition.
A server may remain accessible over the network while an individual critical service is no longer operating. For example, an issue with the web server or database can make a website unavailable even though the VPS itself continues to run.
That is why monitoring should not be limited to checking whether the server’s IP address responds.
Resource monitoring is just as important. A consistently overloaded CPU, insufficient RAM, or an almost full disk are often the first signs of an upcoming problem. Timely analysis helps determine whether the cause lies in the server configuration, the behavior of a specific service, or the fact that the project has outgrown the capacity of its current plan.
Server security is another distinct part of VPS administration. It includes keeping system software up to date, monitoring network access, configuring the firewall, protecting administrative access, and reviewing suspicious system activity.
At the same time, it is important to distinguish between the security of the server itself and the security of the application software installed on it. For example, a secured operating system cannot automatically eliminate a vulnerability in an outdated CMS plugin or a flaw in a third-party web application.
A backup system is equally important. Backups should not merely be configured once—it is necessary to monitor whether they are running, whether sufficient storage space is available, and whether they are kept somewhere they will not be lost along with the server itself.
In the event of a failure, a working backup often makes the difference between a few hours of recovery and irreversible data loss.
VPS and server environment optimization
Server performance depends not only on the number of CPU cores or amount of RAM.
Two VPS instances with identical resources can deliver completely different performance depending on web server, PHP, and database settings, as well as the nature of the workload.
VPS optimization must therefore account for the actual behavior of the specific project.
For web servers, this may involve adjusting Nginx or Apache parameters, PHP settings, request-handling processes, and use of available RAM. For the database server, it involves analyzing MySQL or MariaDB and adjusting settings according to data volume, VPS resources, and actual workload.
Optimization should not become mindless copying of a “fast configuration” from the internet. Settings that work well on one server may be unsuitable for another.
The Managed VPS Full plan follows this approach: the server environment configuration is adjusted to suit the specific VPS and the project hosted on it.
Server setup for a website, online store, CRM, or other project
Set up your VPS yourself or delegate administration to a specialist?
If you are comfortable working with Linux, SSH, web servers, databases, and network settings, you can administer a VPS entirely on your own. Configuration flexibility is one of the main advantages of having your own virtual server.
But you do not need to become a system administrator to use a VPS.
If your primary focus is growing a website, online store, online service, or business, the time spent finding the cause of a server error, configuring a firewall, or analyzing system logs often has far greater value than the cost of professional technical support.
WorkHost offers both initial VPS setup and ongoing server administration and management through Managed VPS Light and Managed VPS Full plans.
You choose the level of support you need and leave server-related tasks to those who handle them regularly.
Frequently asked questions about server setup and administration
Is the cost of a virtual server included in the Managed VPS plan?
No. Managed VPS is a separate service for server administration, configuration, and technical support. The virtual server itself is rented separately according to the selected configuration.
Server management can be added when ordering a new VPS or later to an existing active WorkHost virtual server.
What is the difference between Managed VPS Light and Full?
Light includes regular server maintenance: monitoring, resource and server service monitoring, operating system updates, basic server security, firewall configuration, backups, log and load analysis, and incident diagnosis.
Full includes everything in Light and adds a personal server administrator, enhanced security monitoring, advanced Web Stack optimization, configuration change support, priority request handling, investigation of complex server incidents, and infrastructure preparation for scaling.
Why is there a one-time fee for initial server setup?
Before a virtual server can be accepted for ongoing administration, its current condition, operating system, resources, system services, updates, firewall, security, backups, and core configuration settings must be assessed.
This brings the server environment to a state where it can be properly monitored and maintained going forward.
With monthly billing, the initial server setup costs 2,909 грн for Light and 4,475 грн for Full. With 6- or 12-month billing, initial preparation is provided free of charge.
Can I order administration for an existing server?
Yes. You do not have to order management together with a new VPS.
We can take an existing WorkHost virtual server under technical support. Before maintenance begins, we conduct an initial assessment and determine whether additional work is needed to bring its configuration to a proper working state.
What if the server has a complex or non-standard configuration?
During the initial audit, we assess the server environment and determine which work is required to accept it into management.
Standard preparation is included in the applicable one-time fee. If the virtual server requires substantial recovery, reworking of a non-standard configuration, correction of previous mistakes, or a significant amount of additional work, these services are assessed separately.
Before such work begins, its scope and cost are agreed with the client.
Does the service include installation, configuration, and support for websites and/or other software?
Managed VPS covers the server environment: the operating system, web server, PHP, databases, network, system services, firewall, backups, and other server components.
A website, CMS, CRM, ERP, web application, API, script, or any other software hosted on the server is a separate layer. If the cause of an issue lies within the server environment, it is resolved under the relevant management plan.
Errors in code, modules, extensions, dependencies, or internal software settings are not included in server administration and, if needed, are handled separately.
If you need assistance with such software, the work can be performed separately after an assessment.
Do you install Docker, CRM, ERP, VPN, billing systems, and other non-standard software?
Such work is available, but it is not automatically included in the monthly cost of Managed VPS.
Deployment of Docker environments, installation and configuration of CRM, ERP, VPN, billing platforms, specialized server applications, and other non-standard solutions are assessed based on complexity and the required scope of work.
Additional work is billed at 537 грн per hour after agreement with the client.
What does personal administrative support 16/7 mean?
Managed VPS clients receive direct access to an administrator via Telegram, Viber, or WhatsApp—without a general ticket system, chatbots, or intermediary support agents. You can contact us about server-related matters 16 hours a day, 7 days a week, including weekends and public holidays.
With the Full plan, a personal administrator is assigned to your server and is familiar with its configuration, change history, and project specifics. So when an issue arises, you do not need to explain each time how the server environment is structured or what changes were made previously.
16/7 support means an administrator is available during the stated hours, but it is not an SLA guaranteeing an immediate response or a fixed resolution time. Resolution time depends on the nature of the incident and the complexity of the work required.
Is backup storage included in the administration fee?
Backup configuration and monitoring are included in the plan, but separate backup storage or additional disk space is not included in the price if additional resources must be ordered to use them.
We help configure a backup strategy based on the server configuration and available storage.
For important data, backups should be stored separately from the main virtual server.
Does backup guarantee recovery of any data?
Recovery is possible if a working backup containing the required data is available.
If the required backup does not exist, is corrupted, or the data was lost before an available backup was created, recovery cannot be guaranteed.
That is why, within Managed VPS, we not only configure backups but also monitor their regular execution.
Do I retain root access to my VPS?
Yes. Managed VPS does not deprive the owner of administrative control over the server.
At the same time, independent changes to the system or network configuration can affect VPS stability and security. If you plan significant changes to the server environment, it is advisable to discuss them with the administrator in advance.
Can I cancel the server management service?
Yes. Managed VPS is a separate service, so you can cancel its future renewal at any time.
After cancellation, administration continues until the end of the already paid period. Payments for the unused portion of a month, 6-month, or 12-month period are not prorated or refunded.
After the paid period ends, the virtual server continues to operate, but WorkHost stops providing monitoring, system maintenance, security and backup monitoring, and other services included in the selected plan.
When Managed VPS is reactivated, the server undergoes a new assessment. If its condition or configuration has changed, additional preparation and the applicable initial setup fee may be required.
How can I contact a Managed VPS administrator?
Managed VPS clients receive a direct communication channel with an administrator through their preferred messenger—Telegram, Viber, or WhatsApp.
For server-related matters, you do not need to go through the general website chat, standard email, or explain the issue to multiple support agents.
For the Full plan, communication is directly with the personal administrator assigned to the specific VPS.
Who needs professional VPS administration?
A managed server is suitable for those who need the capabilities of their own VPS but do not have the desire or time to work with Linux, SSH, firewalls, system logs, backups, server services, and updates themselves.
The service is suitable for businesses without an in-house system administrator, online stores, web studios, developers, CRM and ERP systems, website networks, web services, and high-load projects.
In practice, you get a virtual server managed by an administrator while delegating technical server tasks to a specialist.
