NVMe VPS Hosting: Performance and Server Infrastructure Capabilities
NVMe VPS from WorkHost are high-performance virtual servers combining AMD EPYC processors, KVM hardware virtualization, and fast local NVMe drives. This solution is suitable for hosting web projects, enterprise software, databases, and custom server applications.
Renting an NVMe VPS provides an independent server environment without the costs of purchasing physical equipment and maintaining your own infrastructure. Users independently define the software configuration, manage system services, and adapt the server to their project’s needs.
KVM hardware virtualization and independent server environment
KVM (Kernel-based Virtual Machine) technology provides hardware virtualization and isolation for each VPS on the physical server. The virtual machine runs with its own operating system, file structure, network settings, and resources according to the chosen plan.
In practice, this means the ability to use a full-fledged server environment for independent application hosting. Unlike regular web hosting, the user is not limited by a predefined configuration of PHP, web server, databases, or other system software.
Virtual machine isolation allows independent management of system processes, installation of necessary services, and modification of the operating system configuration. This is especially important for commercial projects that require custom settings or the use of specialized server software.
SSD and NVMe: Performance and Cost Difference
WorkHost offers two separate lines of virtual servers: more affordable SSD VPS and high-performance NVMe VPS. Both solutions use solid-state drives, but differ in disk subsystem technology, available configurations, and intended use.
NVMe is designed specifically for modern drives and provides more efficient parallel processing of input/output operations compared to traditional SATA SSDs. As a result, NVMe storage is capable of delivering lower data access latencies and higher performance during intensive disk workloads.
However, the advantages of NVMe manifest primarily where drive speed truly affects software performance. If the server is used for a small website, a test environment, or an application with moderate load, a standard SSD VPS may be completely sufficient.
The higher cost of NVMe VPS is justified primarily for projects that can utilize the additional performance of the disk subsystem. For such tasks, what matters is not just the amount of gigabytes of disk space, but the speed of executing data operations, especially under simultaneous load from multiple processes.
Performance of web projects and databases
The speed of a modern web application depends on the interaction of several components: the processor, random access memory, disk subsystem, and software. In many cases, significant load is generated not by web pages themselves, but by database operations, background tasks, and information processing.
For example, a large online store simultaneously serves visitors, processes orders, updates product inventory, performs catalog imports, and synchronizes information with external systems. Some of these processes require continuous data reading and writing.
NVMe drives are especially useful during a large number of simultaneous disk operations. Reducing input/output latencies can positively impact transaction execution speed, database query processing, and overall application responsiveness under load.
For MySQL, MariaDB, PostgreSQL, and other database management systems, storage performance matters when working with large tables, indexes, transaction logs, and active datasets.
At the same time, NVMe does not replace software optimization. Proper database configuration, effective caching, and sufficient RAM remain important conditions for productive server performance.
Universal platform for business and development
NVMe VPS can be used not only as a server for hosting websites, but also as the foundation of your own software infrastructure. Several interconnected components can run on a single virtual machine: a web application, a database, a caching system, background processors, and auxiliary services.
For businesses, this is an opportunity to host their own CRM and ERP systems, internal portals, corporate applications, and automation tools. Such an environment allows you to independently determine the software composition and control its configuration.
For developers, NVMe VPS can serve as a platform for deploying web services, APIs, containerized applications, test environments, and production environments. Unlike using separate restricted hosting services, your own VPS allows you to organize component interaction according to the architecture of a specific project.
The number of simultaneously running services is determined by their resource requirements and the capabilities of the chosen plan. This allows using the server both for a single demanding application and for multiple independent tasks.
Freedom of server environment configuration
One of the advantages of renting an NVMe VPS is the ability to self-manage. The user receives administrative access to the operating system and can install necessary software, modify system parameters, and manage server services.
Depending on the tasks, you can use a ready-made control panel or configure the server directly via the command line. The first option simplifies daily maintenance, while the second allows you to build a minimal software environment without unnecessary components.
This approach is especially useful for non-standard web projects, custom server applications, and systems that require specific libraries, services, or custom configurations.
The user can independently define access rules, organize software operation, and change server configuration within the limits of available resources and the technical capabilities of the operating system.
Network infrastructure and geographic location
WorkHost NVMe VPS are hosted in professional data centers with high-speed network infrastructure and connections to international backbone networks. This creates the foundation for the stable operation of web services, corporate systems, and server applications aimed at users in various countries.
Geographical data center location matters for projects sensitive to network latency. Placing the server closer to the main audience can reduce data transfer times between the user and the server application.
For international business, the ability to choose a location also makes it possible to account for customer geography, network interaction features, and requirements for data processing and storage locations.
High-speed network infrastructure is complemented by standard DDoS protection. This helps counter common network threats, although proper protection of the operating system and installed software also requires the administrator’s attention.
Project growth and scaling server resources
Server infrastructure needs change as a project evolves. Growth in the number of users, expansion of application functionality, or an increase in data volume can gradually raise the demands on computing resources.
WorkHost NVMe VPS allow you to start with a configuration that fits your current needs and later upgrade to a higher plan. Increasing the resources of an existing server avoids the need to create a new environment and manually transfer all applications.
This is especially convenient for business projects that develop gradually and require predictable scaling of server capacities without a complete infrastructure overhaul.

1. What OS can be installed?
Popular server operating systems are available for NVMe VPS: Ubuntu, Debian, AlmaLinux, Rocky Linux, Fedora, and FreeBSD. You can select the required OS and its version during the server order process.
All operating systems are installed from pre-built server images. Uploading custom ISO images or installing operating systems not included in the list is not supported. Windows Server is not included in this VPS lineup.
After installation, you get full administrative access (root) and can independently configure the system, install software, and manage the server.
2. Can software installation be ordered?
Yes. When ordering an NVMe VPS, you can select a server control panel or additional software. WorkHost offers both free and commercial control panels, as well as the installation of server applications for automation, containerization, database management, and corporate systems.
Installation is carried out taking into account software compatibility with the selected operating system. The cost of commercial licenses and paid installation services is indicated separately.
You can also order a VPS without a control panel and install the necessary software yourself via SSH.
3. Can I change the plan?
Yes. You can upgrade to a higher plan with increased resources without migrating data to another server. Changing the configuration may require a VPS reboot. Downgrading to a lower plan is not supported.
4. Is backup included?
No. Automatic backups are not included in the standard cost of NVMe VPS. Data preservation and backup configuration are managed by the server owner.
You can use specialized software, operating system tools, or the features of your installed control panel to create backups of websites, databases, and files.
We recommend storing backups on a separate server or external storage. This will allow you to restore data even in the event of a severe failure, file system corruption, or loss of access to the main VPS.
5. Are additional IP addresses available?
Each NVMe VPS comes with one public IPv4 address. The modern IPv6 network protocol is also supported.
One IPv4 address is sufficient to host multiple websites, domains, and server applications. For example, Nginx, Apache, and other web servers allow you to serve multiple independent sites on a single IP address.
Additional public IPv4 addresses are not provided for this NVMe VPS line. If your project requires multiple independent IPv4 addresses, we recommend contacting WorkHost support to select an alternative server solution.
